What this is all about
The focus of 1303 Audio & Music is to help creators and students achieve their artistic and educational goals through distinctive audio production and holistic music instruction, combining technical excellence with creative collaboration and individualized guidance.
I’ve been playing guitar since 1998, taking music lessons and learning how to perform songs in rock, alternative, blues, folk, metal, and pop styles. While taking lessons through high school and undergraduate music studies, I also formed a number of groups in which I was the primary guitarist, including a southern rock outfit, an industrial electronica band, a hip-hop group, and an acoustic folk duo.
As I continued to take lessons and then put what I had learned to real-world use in these groups, my skills, passion, and confidence blossomed. Time in these groups and collaboration with other musicians also gave me my first experiences in composing and song-writing, and my fascination with creating music has been growing ever since.
After learning the fundamentals of classical music and receiving an undergraduate degree in Guitar Performance in 2009, I would spend the next couple of years teaching music as a part of several studios and freelancing across North Georgia and Atlanta areas.
In 2011, I decided to fully commit to the study and craft of composition and went on to earn both a Masters and a Doctorate degree in Music Composition from the University of Georgia. Early on in my Masters-level studies, however, and by way of an Electronic Music Composition course, I found myself captivated by the art and science of audio and music production.
Diving into and exploring what was possible at this intersection of technical and creative domains, soon I was putting my energies to use by working for UGA’s School of Music as a studio teaching assistant. Before I knew it, audio production and music technology had become as important and fulfilling to me as music composition, and would also play a central role in my dissertation project.
I finished my time with UGA in 2018, and since then, I’ve been fortunate to be able to teach audio and music courses at the highest levels, holding several positions as a professor in both music schools and media arts programs.
Now having found a city I love to live in with Richmond, Virginia, it gives me great pleasure to operate 1303 Audio & Music in which I can offer my expertise to the audio and music industries while also being an inspiring teacher for interested learners, just like I had as a student.
